Proven Tips for Posting Content to Social Media

“What content should I post to my social media page?” This is a question many agents often ask and we’re taking the opportunity to answer it right here in our blog!

We’ll begin by quickly explaining why we recommend Facebook as the primary social media platform agents use for prospecting. Individuals 65 and older have been the fastest growing demographic on Facebook for a while now and just this year (2021) that segment surpassed the 50% benchmark on the platform. Literally half of the people you’re trying to reach are on Facebook! No other social media channel comes close (Instagram is next in line with 13% market share).

Facebook requires agents to use a Business Page (not a Personal Page) to promote their insurance services. Be aware, however, that only posting about one’s business on a Facebook Business Page is a common mistake. Facebook, like all social media, is meant to be fun and engaging. The platform gives companies and professional individuals an outlet for showing their personality—and sharing this personality should be a main goal when creating content for an agent or agency’s audience.

In addition to messages promoting Medicare services and posts that showcase a brand’s identity, agents need to change things up to keep their content fresh. Topics we know resonate well with the senior market on social media include:

  • Nutrition Tips and Healthy Recipes
  • Senior Health and Wellness Tips
  • Motivational and Inspirational Quotes
  • Seasonal or Holiday Messaging
  • Games and Brain Teasers
  • Insights into the hobbies/recipes/activities agents regularly enjoy or participate in. (In other words, share your own unique expertise and/or experiences with your audience!)

Facebook is an excellent marketing & communication tool for staying in front of existing customers and attracting new clients. Agents need to keep in mind that the platform is designed to be entertaining… and content should be created accordingly. While promoting Medicare insurance services is obviously a top priority for agents using their Facebook Business Page, we need to consider the priorities of our audience when crafting messages and creating content. After all, isn’t giving customers what they want a big part of what we as agents do best?
